Decorative Stitching

Use this stitch to embellish your sewing projects with a single row, multiple rows, or even in combination with other decorative stitches. Experiment with various types of thread such as rayon thread, all-purpose thread, metallic thread, topstitching thread, or even 30wt and 12wt cotton. Use a needle that is appropriate for the type of thread you are using. It is also helpful to use a stabilizer to help support the stitches. Quilting

This decorative stitch can be sewn in parallel rows to help create loft in the layers of quilt blocks. The thread is usually in a color that matches or blends well with the fabric, so that just the quilt texture is noticeable when finished stitching. Experiment with various stitch length and stitch width settings to achieve the look you want for your project.
