A fabric stabilizer is a backing material used to support fabric during sewing or embroidery to prevent puckering and stretching. It's essential for machine embroidery, appliqué, sewing on knits, and working with sheer or delicate fabrics.

Tear-Away is easily removed after stitching and is ideal for stable fabrics. Cut-Away provides permanent support for stretchy knit fabrics. Wash-Away (or water-soluble) dissolves completely in water, perfect for lace making or projects where no stabilizer should remain.

The weight of the stabilizer should correspond to the density of your embroidery design and the weight of your fabric. Use a light-weight stabilizer for simple designs on stable fabrics, and a heavy-weight stabilizer for dense stitch counts on lightweight or stretchy fabrics.

Yes, SINGER® offers fusible stabilizers that have an adhesive on one side, activated by the heat of an iron. These are excellent for temporarily bonding the stabilizer to the fabric, preventing any shifting while hooping and embroidering.

While essential for embroidery, SINGER® stabilizers are also incredibly useful for regular sewing. Use a strip of tear-away stabilizer to reinforce buttonholes on delicate fabric or use it in the seam allowance when sewing on bias-cut edges to prevent stretching.
