The Bartack Stitch is used for reinforcing areas of a garment that are subject to stress, such as belt loops and pockets.
Applications
Attaching Belt Loops
The Bartack Stitch can be used to attach belt loops. Use a needle that is strong enough to sew through the thickness of the bartack and main fabric. Learn more about needles on the SINGER website.
Securing Stress Points
The Bartack Stitch can be used to secure the corners of pockets, stress points on jeans, zippers and more.
Decorative Stitching
Use the Bartack Stitch as a decorative stitch. Sew several on the fabric to create interesting surface design. Experiment with various types of thread such as rayon thread, all-purpose thread, metallic thread, topstitching thread, or even 30wt and 12wt cotton. Be sure to use a needle that is appropriate for the type of thread you are using. Learn more about needles on the SINGER website.
Attaching Ribbons
Attach ribbons or trims to a base fabric for a fun embellishment. Cut a length of ribbon, sew the Bartack Stitch over it to secure it in place on the main fabric. It is helpful to place a small scrap of stabilizer underneath the fabric. When the bartack has been sewn, tie the ribbon into a bow to finish.
