Frequently Asked Questions - SINGER® Embroidery Hoops

Different hoop sizes allow you to work on a variety of project scales. Use a smaller hoop for monogramming or small designs to ensure the best fabric tension, and use a larger hoop for bigger, more complex embroidery designs without re-hooping.

Embroidery hoops are machine-specific. You must use hoops that are designed for your exact SINGER® embroidery or sewing/embroidery combo machine model. Check your machine's manual or the hoop's product description for compatibility information.

The two-part hoop holds your fabric and stabilizer taut, which is crucial for high-quality, pucker-free embroidery. The outer ring has a screw for tightening, which secures the fabric stretched over the inner ring.

While standard hoops are for flat items, you can embroider on many challenging items with the right technique. For hats, you would typically use a specialty hat hoop if available, or embroider on a flat panel before constructing the hat.

A stabilizer is a special backing material hooped along with your fabric. It provides the stability and support your fabric needs to prevent stretching, puckering, and distortion during the high-density stitching of machine embroidery.
