FAQ - Fabric

Our fabric collection includes cotton (prints and solids), flannel, fleece (including anti-pill, minky, and sherpa), apparel fabrics (denim, satin, faux fur, corduroy, activewear, and more), and utility fabrics (canvas, vinyl, outdoor fabric, and other heavy-duty materials).

Fabric is sold by the yard, so you can purchase exactly the amount your project requires. Whether you need half a yard for a small craft or several yards for a full garment or quilt, you can order the precise quantity you need.

Start with the end use. Garment sewing calls for fabrics with the right drape, stretch, and breathability for the style. Quilting works best with stable woven cottons. Blankets and cozy home items suit soft knits like fleece or minky. Bags and outdoor projects need durable, structured fabrics like canvas or vinyl.

For natural fiber fabrics like cotton and flannel, pre-washing before cutting is strongly recommended to prevent shrinkage in the finished project. Always press fabric flat before cutting to ensure accurate measurements and clean edges.

Cotton is widely considered the best fabric for beginner sewists. It's easy to cut, doesn't slip or stretch out of shape, and is forgiving of small imperfections. Fleece is another excellent beginner choice — its edges don't fray, which simplifies construction significantly.
