FAQ - Embroidery Hoops

Choose a hoop based on the size of your design and your machine's maximum embroidery area. A 4x4 inch (100 x 100 mm) hoop suits monograms and small logos, 5x7 inch fits medium designs, and 6x10 inch or larger hoops suit large patterns and jacket backs. The hoop must be compatible with your machine.

Hoops are designed for specific machines and attachment systems, so a hoop for one brand or model will usually not fit another. Check the compatibility on the product page, including the hoop size and the attachment type, before ordering. Use your machine's model number to find hoops that fit.

Common types include standard plastic hoops, magnetic hoops that hold fabric with magnets, and specialty hoops for hats, cuffs and sleeves, and for large or small designs. Magnetic hoops speed up hooping and reduce hoop marks on delicate fabric.

Place the stabilizer and fabric together in the hoop, snug and wrinkle-free, but do not stretch the fabric. Stretching distorts the design after unhooping. Tighten the outer ring and check that the fabric is smooth and the grain is straight.

Yes. Stabilizer supports the fabric during stitching, which prevents puckering and gives clean, crisp designs. Choose cut-away for knits, tear-away for stable wovens and water-soluble for towels and sheer fabric.

Use less pressure when tightening, try a magnetic hoop, or float the fabric on top of hooped stabilizer instead of hooping the fabric directly. Steam or gentle pressing often removes remaining marks.

Yes. Use smaller hoops or specialty hoops made for tubular and narrow items such as cuffs, sleeves and pockets. Floating the item on top of hooped stabilizer can also work for small or thick pieces that cannot be hooped. Use adhesive or a basting stitch to hold the item in place.

Wipe hoops with a damp cloth and dry them completely, then store them flat so the rings do not warp. Check the inner ring and tightening screws occasionally for damage, and replace a hoop that no longer holds fabric firmly. Keep hoops away from heat and direct sunlight.
