This decorative stitch can be used to sew appliques. It will take some experimenting on scrap fabric to find the exact settings you want for your applique. Set the width at a medium setting to start, and adjust from there. Use an Open Toe Foot (additional accessory for some machine models) which can be helpful because it provides a clear view of the sewing area. The center of the stitch should hug the outside edge of the applique, the left side of the stitch sews on the applique, and the right side of the stitch sew onto the main fabric.
