Frequently Asked Questions - PFAFF® Serger & Overlock Machines

A PFAFF® serger, or overlock machine, trims the fabric edge and sews a seam all in one step, creating a durable, professional finish that won't fray. It's perfect for sewing knit fabrics, creating rolled hems, and giving all your projects a store-bought look.

The differential feed controls the movement of the front and rear feed dogs, allowing you to prevent stretching in knit fabrics and puckering in lightweight fabrics. It can also be used to intentionally create gathers for ruffles and decorative effects.

PFAFF® sergers are designed to be user-friendly. Models in the admire™ series feature color-coded threading paths and lay-in tensions, making the threading process much simpler and faster than older overlock machines.

A serger is a companion to a regular sewing machine, not a replacement. While a serger is superior for seams and edge finishes, you will still need your PFAFF® sewing machine for tasks like zippers, buttonholes, topstitching, and embroidery.

PFAFF® sergers can perform a variety of stitches, including 2, 3, and 4-thread overlock seams for construction and finishing. They can also create beautiful decorative finishes like flatlock seams, rolled hems, and picot edges.
