Apparel fabric refers to any textile selected specifically for use in garment construction. These fabrics are chosen for properties that matter most in clothing — drape, hand feel, durability, and how they behave through repeated wearing and washing. Our apparel fabric collection spans a wide spectrum of materials: structured wovens like denim, corduroy, and heavyweight cotton for tailored pieces, smooth and luxurious options like satin for occasion wear, tactile specialty fabrics like faux fur and sherpa for outerwear and accessories, and performance fabrics for activewear. Whatever garment you're sewing, the right fabric starts here.

Apparel fabric is any textile used in the construction of clothing and garments. It encompasses a broad range of materials — from woven fabrics like denim and cotton twill to specialty options like satin, faux fur, and activewear fabric — each selected for the specific performance and aesthetic properties needed in garment sewing.
Denim is the classic choice for jeans, offering the weight, structure, and durability associated with the style. Cotton twill and heavyweight cotton are strong alternatives for chinos, work trousers, and structured pants where a clean drape and firm hand are required.
Activewear fabric is engineered with stretch and moisture-wicking properties that allow freedom of movement and keep the wearer comfortable during physical activity. It's the correct choice for leggings, sports bras, athletic shorts, and performance tops.
Faux fur requires a few special considerations: cut from the back using small scissors or a rotary cutter to avoid cutting the pile, sew with the pile running downward, use a longer stitch length, and gently tease out any pile trapped in seams with a pin or brush after sewing.
The outer shell of a structured jacket typically calls for a stable woven like denim, heavyweight cotton, corduroy, or a coating fabric. Sherpa and faux fur work well for casual unlined or fleece-lined styles. Satin is a traditional choice for lining the interior of tailored outerwear.
Choosing the right apparel fabric determines how a finished garment looks, fits, and wears over time. Woven apparel fabrics like denim, cotton twill, and heavyweight cotton are dimensionally stable and ideal for structured garments — jeans, jackets, trousers, and workwear. Smooth wovens like poplin and satin suit blouses, linings, and occasion wear where a clean drape is essential. For garments with texture and warmth, corduroy and sweatshirt fleece offer comfort and visual interest in equal measure. Specialty fabrics like faux fur and sherpa bring dimension and softness to outerwear, vests, and accessories. Activewear fabrics are engineered with stretch and moisture management in mind, making them the right choice for athletic and performance garments. When selecting apparel fabric, always consider your pattern's recommended fabric type, the desired silhouette, and how the fabric will behave with movement and over time.
