Drawstring Gift Bag with Embroidery

Why wait till the holiday season is upon us to start those holiday sewing projects?  Get a head start by stitching up some lovely gift bags. This project is designed for the SINGER® Legacy™ SE300 and SE340 sewing and embroidery machines. However, if you don’t have an embroidery machine, you can skip the embroidery part of these instructions and construct the bag with your favorite fabric, starting at Step 14. Finished size of the bag is approximately 10” x 13”.

VIEW INSTRUCTIONS

Materials

  • SINGER® 5” x 7” embroidery hoop*
  • “Gift Boxes” embroidery design (download from mySewnet™)** 
  • One 13” x 31” fabric (for outside of bag)
  • One 13” x 31” fabric (for bag lining)
  • Three 2” x 2” squares of fabric for the “gift box” appliques
  • One 10” x 13” piece of INSPIRA® Tear-A-Way™ stabilizer
  • All-purpose thread (for construction)
  • Assorted rayon threads for embroidering the outer bag fabric
  • Bobbinfill thread for bobbin
  • Two 1-yard pieces of ⅜” – ¼” wide ribbon (for drawstrings)
  • Removable fabric marking pen and ruler (optional)
  • Safety pin
